Hampton takes a 77-69 victory over William & Mary

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Brian Darden and Emmanuel Okoroba combined for 35 points to lead Hampton to a 77-69 win over William & Mary Friday.

Darden led with 18 points while Okoroba had 17 points and six rebounds. Du’Vaughn Maxwell added 12 points for the Pirates.

Darden hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring as Hampton broke to an early 19-3 lead and were up 24-7 midway through the first half before William & Mary charged back to close within three, 36-33, on a Marcus Thornton dunk with 1:48 remaining in the half.

Hampton tried to stretch the lead again in the second half, but the Tribe stayed within striking distance, even though they never actually took the lead. William & Mary closed to within five 67-62 on a Thornton 3-pointer with 2:30 remaining in the game.

Thornton led the Tribe with 21 points. Omar Prewitt added 15 points.
