Chicago State downs Urbana 77-52

CHICAGO (AP) — Quinton Pippen scored 16 points and Clarke Rosenberg added 11 to lead Chicago State past Division-II Urbana 77-52 Saturday night.

Pippen hit a jumper, a layup and a free throw to fuel a 9-0 run to open the game for the Cougars (1-1). After giving up six-straight points to Urbana, Chicago State used a 22-4 run to take a 31-10 lead.

The Blue Knights fought back to make the score 35-20 at half and climbed within 10 early in the second half. The Cougars responded again however, holding Urbana to just five points for nearly 10 minutes as they coasted to a comfortable 58-31 lead.

Danny Goins led Urbana with 17 points and Andrej Tomic grabbed seven rebounds.

Chicago State shot 49.2 percent from the field. They finished with 17 steals, with Pippen and Rosenberg each getting three.

The Blue Knights were held to 13-of-47 shooting and committed 27 turnovers.
