SAN DIEGO (AP) — Anthony Ireland’s 20 points and 12 assists helped Loyola Marymount outdistance South Dakota State 98-89 on Saturday.
Ireland’s fifth career double-double was part of a potent attack for the Lions (2-0), as Ben Dickinson added 22 points and six rebounds and freshman Gabe Levin added 20 points and six boards.
LMU went into intermission ahead 45-44 on three straight 3-pointers. The Lions led by as many as 15 in the second half and their shooting percentage of 57.6 percent was the best in four years.
Loyola Marymount committed 37 fouls, equaling a school-worst, and South Dakota State hit 37 of 50 from the line.
