Floats hidden for visitors on Oregon Coast

The search for treasure on Lincoln City’s beaches is kicking into full swing this month as beachcombers take to the sand in search of glass art hidden among the driftwood and rocks on the Oregon Coast.

Through May 26, more than 2,000 glass floats — and the occasional glass sand dollars and crabs — will be placed on the 71/2 miles of sand on the city’s western border. The glass floats are created by local artists and placed on the beach each day, with specific dates bringing a larger haul. The promotion, in its 15th year, is known as Finder’s Keepers.

“This 15th anniversary of the program will mark well over 30,000 floats placed on the beaches of Lincoln City for people to find,” Public Relations Coordinator for the Lincoln City Visitor and Convention Bureau Scott Humpert said. “It’s fun for everyone to see the beautiful and wide variety of glass floats that our artisans create.”

The glass floats will be signed and numbered. When the floats are found, people can bring the discovered treasure to the Visitors’ Center at 540 N.E. Highway 101 to receive a certificate of authenticity and a biographical sketch of the artist who created the float.
