I was glad to read in the Oct. 24 story “EPA says greenhouse gas emissions on the decline” that there was a 10 percent decrease in greenhouse gas emissions from 2010 to 2012 due to the use of natural gas instead of fossil fuels. I have long been concerned that we are not paying enough attention in how our industrial plants are being fueled.
While a 10 percent decline is good, it’s not great. There are a few alternatives that have very little to no greenhouse gas emissions and have been proven on an industrial scale: solar, wind, tidal, hydroelectric, and nuclear power. I believe that the government needs to provide better incentives to companies that are already using or plan to switch to renewable energies. Switching to any of these alternatives can be very costly to a company, so something like a significant tax cut would be very helpful, not only to the company but also in our fight to reduce greenhouse gases.
