FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis is recovering from surgery on his left quadriceps.

The operation took place on Monday. The team said he will need five to seven months to rehabilitate the injury.

The 38-year-old Reis tore the tendon in the final minutes of the team’s playoff game against Sporting Kansas City on Nov. 6. The Revolution lost 3-1 to drop the series 4-3 on aggregate goals.

Reis appeared in 12 regular-season matches this season, going 7-0-4 with a career-best 0.72 goals-against average. He is the first goalkeeper in MLS history to go undefeated after making 10 or more appearances in a season.
