Steps to build your business: Bruce Lyons said he markets his business in print publications, online and on television, but he feels the driving force of his success has been in the loyalty and subsequent referrals of customers.

Greatest challenge: Communicating the store's brand is the greatest challenge, Lyons said. The company name does not give a complete picture of what is available. The store offers quality wood furniture with everything from do-it-yourself kits to high-end hand-built items. The store sells furniture from about 25 manufacturers offering more than 15,000 products, Lyons said.

What's ahead: The immediate goal is to increase warehouse capacity, Lyons said. He wants to have his most popular furniture in stock ready for sale immediately.

Owners' business history: Kathryn and Bruce Lyons met when both worked for the former Mervyn's department stores. Bruce started the business as a hobby in Vancouver in 1991 and Kathryn came on board four years later.
