ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — John Fox said Tuesday that he plans on returning to the sideline this season.

Fox is recovering from heart surgery for a genetic defect.

In a conference call with media in Denver, he said, “My goal and dream is to be there before the conclusion of the season.”

Fox had his aortic valve replaced last week after falling ill during a round of golf near his offseason home in Charlotte, N.C. during the Broncos’ bye.

Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is serving as interim coach and he led Denver past San Diego 28-20 Sunday.

The Broncos (8-1) dedicated the win to Fox and owner Pat Bowlen for his 300th victory.
