The driver involved in a fatal single-car crash in Lewis County has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to Washington State Patrol.

Jonathon K. Reno, 42, of Vancouver remains at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Trooper Will Finn said.

Reno was driving a 1991 Honda Accord south on Jackson Highway at a high rate of speed Sunday night when the car struck a guardrail and crossed the centerline near Ray Road, two miles south of Toledo, according to state patrol.

The Honda then struck a power pole on the front passenger side of the vehicle before coming to rest in a ditch, according to state patrol. A passenger in the vehicle, Adam W. Newstrom, 28, of Vancouver, died in the crash.

Once Reno is released from the hospital, Finn said, he will be transported to Lewis County Jail.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and Finn said Reno may face additional charges.

Neither of the two occupants was wearing a seat belt, Finn said.
