ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Kliff Kingsbury was Texas Tech’s starting quarterback when the Red Raiders got a new running backs coach in 2000.

The big passing quarterback still remembers the reaction Art Briles got after making the move from successful Texas high school coach to the college ranks at his alma mater.

Kingsbury says players gravitated toward Briles, and it was clear he was going to “go a long way in this profession.”

Kingsbury is in his first season as head coach of their alma mater. The Red Raiders play Briles’ fourth-ranked Baylor Bears on Saturday night at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium.

It will be Baylor’s first game since Briles got a new 10-year contract this week to stay through the 2023 season. Baylor has a school-record 12-game winning streak.
