Police say a man died Friday evening after being struck by a Sound Transit commuter train in Auburn, and another died that morning when he was hit by a freight train in Edmonds.
The victim in the Friday evening crash was between 20 and 30 years old, Auburn police said. He had not been identified Friday night.
Initial information suggested the man was attempting to cross the tracks in front of the train when he was struck.
The man in Edmonds was struck and killed by a train about 7:30 a.m. near the ferry terminal. Rail and ferry traffic were blocked through the morning.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said the man walked on the tracks toward the train. The crew blew its whistle and applied the emergency brake but couldn’t stop in time. Police said he was 35 and from Mountlake Terrace.
