Alcorn St. beats Jackson St. 48-33

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — John Gibbs Jr. threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns as Alcorn State finished their season with a 48-33 win over Jackson State Saturday.

Alcorn State (9-3, 7-2 SWAC) used a 24-point second quarter to jump out to a 31-3 halftime lead, and Jackson St. (8-3, 8-1) never recovered. After throwing a 15-yard touchdown to Jordan Payne in the first quarter, Gibbs Jr. hit Tollette George for a 13-yard score to give the Braves a 14-0 lead.

After the team’s traded field goals, Alcorn State’s Quinton Cantue intercepted Clayton Moore’s pass and returned it for a touchdown. Arnold Walker’s 13-yard scoring run pushed the lead to 31-3.

Clayton Moore led Jackson State with 269 yards passing and a touchdown to go along with 63 yards on the ground. He also threw three interceptions.

Jackson State will be playing in the SWAC championship game on Dec. 7.
