Letter: Way out of crisis seems impossible

The Columbian
Published: November 16, 2013, 4:00pm

After reading the morning paper, and listening to “News Hour,” “Washington Week” and Gwen Ifill, I often wonder “Is this any way to run a country?” Who cares about all the unfunded liabilities (Social Security, Medicare, Part D, Medicaid, Affordable Care Act)? The ever-widening gap between rich and poor, the ever-growing threat our political enemies are posing for us, the ever-larger defense budget, farm program, giveaways to the states, which most supported the elected executive in the last election, all of these make you wonder whether our children and grandchildren will live more frugally, whether they like it or not. It seems that both political parties are in some kind of entrapment and don’t see a way out.
