Nebraska tops South Carolina State 83-57

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Ray Gallegos had 18 points to lead five Huskers in double figures and Nebraska used a two second-half scoring spurts to run past South Carolina State 83-57 Sunday.

Nebraska (3-0) led by as many as 13 in the first half, but saw South Carolina State (1-3) hit a pair of baskets to open the second half, cutting the lead to 40-35 on layup by Adama Adams with 18:23 remaining.

The Huskers then scored seven straight to take a 47-35 lead on Terran Petteway’s jumper with 15:10 left. Nebraska went up 20 on Deverell Biggs’ layup midway through a 10-0 Husker run that made the score 71-51 with 6:39 remaining. Nebraska’s biggest lead was 26.

Biggs had 17 points for the Huskers, Tai Webster had 13, Leslee Smith had 12 and Shavon Shields added 10.

Jordan Smith had 14 points to lead South Carolina State. Adams finished with 11 for the Bulldogs.
