BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Mike Neal scored 21 points, leading five Appalachian State players in double figures in a 91-63 win over Lees-McRae on Tuesday night.
Appalachian State (1-3) earned its first win of the season over Division II Lees-McRae. The Mountaineers opened the game on a 22-11 run, led by eight points from Tab Hamilton and seven from Neal.
Lees-McRae closed the deficit to 51-39 early in the second half, but that was as close as the Bobcats would get as Appalachian State responded with a 17-9 run to open a 68-48 advantage.
Lees-McRae shot 40 percent from the field, but committed 16 turnovers compared with 7 for Appalachian State.
Hamilton scored 19 for the Mountaineers and Mike Kobani had 12. Michael Obacha and Frank Eaves added 11 points apiece for Appalachian State.
Mike Chambers led Lees-McRae with 18 points. Darryl Bond added 13 points and four blocked shots.
