INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Colts promoted tight end Justice Cunningham from the practice squad to the active roster Tuesday.

To make room for this year’s Mr. Irrelevant in the draft, Indianapolis (7-3) waived receiver Griff Whalen.

Whalen played in six games this season, catching nine passes for 102 yards. He was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted rookie in April 2012. He missed all of last season with an injury. He joined the practice squad Oct. 2 and was promoted to the active roster Oct. 28 after perennial Pro Bowl receiver Reggie Wayne went down with a season-ending knee injury.

Cunningham was released in the Colts’ final cutdown and joined the practice squad Sept. 2. At South Carolina, he caught 50 passes for 581 yards and one TD during his career.
