CHEHALIS — A man found hiding in Alaska has been convicted of murder in the 1985 deaths of an elderly Washington state couple.
The Chronicle reports that jurors in Chehalis deliberated for a day and a half before reaching a verdict Monday in the trial of Rick Riffe.
Originally from Mossyrock, Wash., Riffe was charged in the deaths of 81-year-old Ed Maurin and 83-year-old Minnie Maurin.
Prosecutors said Riffe and his now-deceased brother, John Riffe, abducted the couple from their home at Ethel, forced them to withdraw $8,500 from a bank, then later shot them and left their bodies on a logging road.
