FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed free agent linebacker Jermaine Cunningham, a second-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2010.
The move Wednesday came a day after the Jets placed backup tight end Konrad Reuland on the injured reserve list with a knee injury. Reuland had one catch for 7 yards while serving mostly as a blocking tight end.
Cunningham, a former University of Florida star, had 59 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles in 36 games for the Patriots. He was suspended by the NFL for four games last season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
He was cut by New England before the regular season and signed with San Francisco last month, but was released Oct. 29.
