Brown scores 23 in Stanford’s 97-71 win over TSU

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Anthony Brown scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds in helping Stanford win its third straight, beating Texas Southern 97-71 Thursday night as part of the Progressive Legends Classic.

Josh Huestis matched his season-high with 18 points as five players reached double figures for the Cardinal (4-1). Chasson Randle added 15, Aaron Bright 12 and Dwight Powell 11.

Aaric Murray scored 28 points to lead the Tigers (2-4), who lost their fourth straight. Jose Rodriguez added 24.

Stanford advances to the championship round, which takes place Monday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and will play Houston.

Stanford led at halftime, 51-44.

The Cardinal opened the second half on an 11-2 run, taking a 62-46 edge with 13:29 remaining to play on a pair of free throws from Randle.
