BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Andy Summerlin threw four TD passes, including the game-winner with seconds remaining and propelled Samford to a 33-32 victory over Elon on Saturday, assuring Samford a Southern Conference co-championship.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 6-2) had all they could handle with an upset-minded Elon team that broke out to a first half lead (21-10) and still lead in the fourth quarter when Summerlin took control and drove the Bulldogs 75 yards in 12 plays for the go ahead TD. Summerlin hit Chris Cephus on a fourth-and-goal 12-yard pass with just 7 seconds remaining. The 2-point conversion failed, but Elon (2-10, 1-7 Southern) had no time to mount a comeback.

Summerlin threw for 442 yards (36-55) and two interceptions. The Bulldogs rushed for only 27 yards and fumbled once.

Mike Quinn passed for 227 yards with two interceptions, while Kierre Brown opened the scoring for Elon with a 56 yard TD punt return.
