Stewart, Rider buck Central Connecticut St 89-73

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Daniel Stewart scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Rider beat Central Connecticut State 89-73 Saturday night.

Malcolm McMillan scored six of his 11 points in the first 5:12 of the game as Central Connecticut State (0-4) jumped out to an early 12-3 lead. Rider quickly responded with a 22-6 run that started with a layup and 3-pointer by Anthony Myles and was capped by a 3-pointer and jumper by Zedric Sadler with 6:49 left in the half. The Broncs wouldn’t trail again.

Rider (1-2) outscored the Blue Devils 17-6 to close out the half, taking a 44-28 advantage into the break.

CCSU trimmed its deficit to 9 points on a few occasions in the second half, but couldn’t get any closer.

Sadler finished with 21 points, five rebounds and five assists. Miles scored 19 points.

Faronte Drakeford had 14 points and eight rebounds for CCSU.
