William & Mary rallies to beat Rutgers 72-62

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Marcus Thornton scored 28 points, and William & Mary rallied for a 72-62 win over Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

Tim Rusthoven, Kyle Gaillard and Terry Tarpey each had two baskets as William & Mary (2-3) erased a 33-24 halftime deficit with a 20-0 run to start the second period. Tarpey finished with 11 points and Rusthoven scored 10 to send the Tribe to their third win over an American Athletic Conference foe in 24 all-time meetings against teams in the fledgling league.

Rutgers (3-3) opened the second half by missing its first five shots and committing six turnovers before Myles Mack snapped the skid with a 3-pointer seven minutes into the period. Jerome Seagears finished with 15 points and Mack and Kadeem Jack each scored 14 for Rutgers, which dropped its second straight under first-year coach Eddie Jordan.
