South Alabama puts away Houston Baptist 79-59

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Augustine Rubit scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as South Alabama pulled away from Houston Baptist 79-59 Sunday.

The Jaguars (4-2) broke an early tie with a 13-2 run fueled by a three-point play and two more baskets by Rubit, coasting out to a 46-31 lead at halftime. South Alabama extended that lead to as much as 30 in the second half as Austin Karazsia, Antoine Allen and Ken Williams each hit a 3-pointer in a two-minute stretch to make the score 68-38 with 9:18 remaining.

Eight of Rubit’s 13 boards came on the offensive side. Williams scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting with a trio of 3-pointers.

Houston Baptist (1-5) never led during the game, despite shooting 37.3 percent to South Alabama’s 36.9. They committed 15 turnovers and made just one of their nine 3-point attempts. Rob Lewis led the Huskies with 14 points.
