PORTLAND — Investigators determined that a Saturday night fire that burned through a southeast Portland house was started by an improperly discarded cigarette.

Portland Fire and Rescue says the fire went to two alarms when winds spread the fire to a neighboring home and a power line fell in the street.

No one was injured but seven men and a boy were displaced.

KATU reports the house was an addiction recovery home run by the Oxford program. Outreach worker Edward Smith said it’s one of 156 Oxford homes in Oregon.

The Red Cross is helping four of the men and the boy. The others were able to stay at another Oxford home.
