Red Wings sign D Ericsson to 6-year extension

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a six-year contract extension.

The club announced the deal on Wednesday, but didn’t provide additional terms.

The 29-year-old Ericsson was drafted by Detroit with the last pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 292 games with the Red Wings since making his NHL debut in 2007-08.

Ericsson has 14 goals and 48 assists and a plus-14 rating over his career. He has five goals and 11 assists in 64 postseason games.

The 6-foot-4, 221-pound native of Karlskrona, Sweden, is second on the team this season in average ice time.
