Letter: Herrera Beutler used good sense

It’s been previously reported that U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, was chided by the GOP county board for her vote to fund the government and avoid debt default. It appears her sin was using common sense and being realistic. The Tea Party is evidently alive and well in Clark County.

Does the Obama health care program need watch? Absolutely. Herrera Beutler voted for the first bill, which contained changes to the health bill, along with funding the government and the debt limit. That bill did not pass. She then voted for the final bill, which was approved by House and Senate GOP leaders and passed with large majorities in both houses. Who is out of step with the American people here?

As a Republican from the Eisenhower years, I am tired of the tail wagging the dog in the party. To be willing to shut down the government and default on its debts to stop a signature bill of the president that has been law since 2010 shows how out of touch with the country and with reality the far right is.
