Oliver Bjorkstrand scored a hat trick, which included two third-period goals that iced the game, as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the Spokane Chiefs 6-3 in a Western Hockey League game Friday at Spokane.

It was the fifth straight win for Portland (19-5-2-1) over Spokane (17-9-0-1) this season.

Bjorkstrand’s first goal put the Winterhawks ahead 2-1 in the first period.

Spokane trailed 4-3 at the start of the third period when Bjorkstrand scored his second goal on a power play 2:52 into the third for a 5-3 advantage. Bjorkstrand finished with an empty netter to complete the scoring and his second hat trick of the season.

Paul Bittner had three assists, and Nic Petan had two assists.

The Winterhawks will return to action at 5 p.m. Sunday when they host the Saskatoon Blades at the Moda Center.
