Letter: Vote denies care for those with less

U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, was not in Washington, D.C., to vote on the Republican legislation to make massive cuts in the food stamp program that millions depend on for food for their families. She stayed in California to be with her new infant daughter. This is as it should be, because our children should be one of the most important things in our lives.

She says that she will only return to D.C. for crucial votes. Unfortunately for the majority of Americans, the GOP has issues they consider more important than children, such as the defunding of the Affordable Care Act. The Republican votes are denying Herrera Beutler’s constituents the ability to access the same health care options that she and her family enjoy, with some of it at taxpayer expense. After trying to do this for more than 40 times, perhaps the Republicans should realize that they lost the presidential election and should do the jobs they are paid to do, govern.
