NEW YORK (AP) — Whitney Handicap winner Cross Traffic won’t run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic next month because of a minor shin injury.

GoldMark Farm general manager Todd Quast said Wednesday that Cross Traffic was injured when the dirt track broke out from underneath him at the start of the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park last weekend. He was seventh, the first time in six career races that he finished out of the money.

Quast says Cross Traffic will be brought back to the farm for further evaluation.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, Cross Traffic has three wins and career earnings of $687,967. He began his racing career in January.

In the Whitney in August at Saratoga, Cross Traffic beat defending BC Classic winner Fort Larned and Mucho Macho Man, who finished second in last year’s Classic.
