STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State senior Wendell Lewis has been dismissed from the program for “conduct detrimental to the team.”

Second-year coach Rick Ray said Thursday in a university statement that he was “saddened by the actions we had to take because we brought Wendell back to give him an opportunity to complete his senior year on the court healthy and earn his degree.”

The 6-foot-9 forward from Selma, Ala., was expected to be a major contributor to the Bulldogs’ frontcourt this season. He played in 98 career games, including 13 starts.

He averaged 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game for his career. He was limited to just eight games last season because of a knee injury.
