GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Karl Bostick ran for two touchdowns and Chandler Wrightenberry returned an interception for a score as Elon edged Furman 28-25 in a Southern Conference game Saturday.

After building a 28-10 lead at the half, the Phoenix (2-4, 1-1 Southern) turned the game over to the defense.

Furman (2-3, 1-1) got back in the game with Hank McCloud’s 3-yard run in the third quarter, followed by Duncan Fletcher’s PAT run. McCloud scored again on a 29-yard pass from Fletcher midway through the fourth quarter. But the Paladins only managed one first down on their last two possessions.

Bostick’s 2-yard run and Wrightenberry’s 33-yard return put Elon up 14-7 after one quarter. Mike Quinn connected with Rasaun Rorie, who had three catches for 112 yards, for a 73-yard score before Bostick’s 8-yard run made it 28-25.

McCloud rushed 20 times for 116 yards as Furman out-gained Elon 419-309 in total offense.
