Safron throws Sacramento St past N Colorado, 37-21

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Garrett Safron threw three second-quarter touchdown passes to stake Sacramento to a 37-21 win over Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference game Saturday night.

Northern Colorado (1-5, 0-1 Big Sky) struck quickly on a 56-yard Seth Lobato-to-Will Jefferson, Jr., pass 1:20 into the game, but the Hornets responded with a 15 yard TD run by DeAndre Carter and a field goal by Jesse Aguilar to jump ahead 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Safron tossed TDs of 11 yards to Shane Harrison, 12 yards to Carter and 13 to Cole Hikutini to break the game open in the second quarter giving Sacramento State at 31-14 lead at the intermission.

Darius Graham ran for a 3 yard TD in the second quarter to bring Northern Colorado within 24-14, but the Hornets held Northern Colorado to just one more score for the remainder game.
