A large crowd is expected in Vancouver tonight as the co-leaders of the state Senate Transportation Committee hold a public meeting.
Republican Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima, and Democratic Sen. Tracey Eide, D-Federal Way, are holding a series of 10 meetings around the state to gauge public interest in a transportation revenue package and transportation spending reforms before the 2014 legislative session.
The Legislature this year passed only a bare-bones construction and maintenance budget. Legislators and state transportation officials say that more money will be needed to construct additional projects around the state.
Tonight’s meeting is not specifically about the controversial Columbia River Crossing project, but it is expected to be on the top of local minds. Earlier this year, the conservative coalition that controls the Senate declined to provide Washington’s share of construction funding for that project.
