Letter: Support cancer research

The Columbian
Published: October 6, 2013, 5:00pm

Recently I traveled to Washington, D.C., with approximately 600 people from across the nation for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. We called on the offices of every member of Congress, asking them to make cancer a national priority. Cancer research needs to be funded continually, in order not to lose the benefits from prior years’ investments. With funds so tight, it would be easy for them to overlook research.

Cancer touches everyone in some way. If you are concerned about this, please email the offices of Sens. Maria Cantwell (maria_cantwell@cantwell.senate.gov) and Patty Murray (patty_murray@murray.senate.gov) and Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (wa03herreraBeutler@mail.house.gov), urging them to stop sequestration cuts to the National Cancer Institute through the Department of Health and Human Services. They need to hear from lots of us that this should be a priority.
