Camas — Artist Elida Field won the People’s Choice award for the heart she painted as part of that “The Beat Goes On” fundraiser for the new heart unit at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. Thirty professional artists painted heart sculptures that were placed on display throughout downtown Vancouver for a few months before being auctioned. Field, who lives and works in Camas, grew up in Ridgefield, and her heart paid tribute to her childhood home as well as other homes from all over the world. Field’s heart was on display near the Welcome to Vancouver sign on Mill Plain Boulevard entering downtown. The fundraiser brought in more than $500,000. More Field work can be viewed at elidaart.com.
