HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A group of 26 Newtown residents will be running in Hartford to honor the 26 children and educators killed last December at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Some, including Sandy Hook pediatrician Dr. Laura Nowacki, will be running the entire Hartford Marathon on Saturday. Others will run the half marathon or the 5 km race.

Nowacki, a mother of four who had a daughter inside the school during the shooting, was a first responder. She says running became therapy for her afterward.

She also ran the Boston Marathon, finishing about a half hour before the bombings. She said that attack strengthened her resolve to run in Hartford.

The Newtown runners are raising money for the 12.14 Foundation, which is planning to build an arts center in town.
