LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — For many members of the U.S. bobsled and luge teams, the road to Sochi starts this weekend.

Team trials are scheduled to begin on Saturday for women’s and two-man bobsledding on the track at Mount Van Hoevenberg, in Lake Placid, N.Y., followed Sunday by the start of USA Luge’s national championships and seeding races.

And for many sliders, these will be important steps on the road to the Sochi Games.

Little, if anything, will be decided this weekend. Luge’s national championships end Oct. 20 in Park City, Utah.

The U.S. bobsled and skeleton teams have a total of seven additional race sessions between Oct. 20-30, both in Lake Placid and on the 2002 Olympic track in Park City.
