Letter: Clear budget without raising debt

The Columbian
Published: October 11, 2013, 5:00pm

In regard to Aaron Corvin’s Oct. 6 column, “GOP tack dumb and dumber,” I agree the shutdown is dumb but I blame all three parties — Republicans, Democrats, and whatever party President Obama is part of. This “my way or the highway” attitude of Majority Leader Harry Reid and Obama is not getting them anywhere. What would be dumber, however, is to (again) raise the debt limit with no clear budget or spending proposals. These continuing resolutions are digging a very deep hole.

Time for Congress to get control of the programs they have created and then left to fend for themselves. And let’s take a big bite away from foreign aid.
