A Vancouver woman hit an intruder with a dumbbell after he allegedly broke into her home Tuesday afternoon and made sexual comments at her.

The 48-year-old, whose name was not released, was reportedly sitting in the living room of her house in the 300 block of Northeast 152nd Avenue when she heard the garage door open. She thought someone she knew was coming home, said Kim Kapp, spokeswoman for the Vancouver Police Department. However, she saw a stranger, described as a man in his 20s, enter the living room through the garage.

He grabbed her legs and made sexual comments. She then picked up a nearby hand weight and hit the man in the head, at which point he fled the house through the garage.

The burglary was reported to Vancouver police at 1:23 p.m., and a K-9 unit searched the area but could not find the suspect.

The woman was not injured and nothing was discovered missing from the home.
