Central Park Place — More than 40 Home Depot employees worked for three days (Oct. 2-4) on a thorough remodel of Central Park Place, the apartment building near Clark College that houses 123 formerly homeless people, mostly military veterans. “Team Depot,” a volunteer program, swarmed the place to install $20,000 in donated furniture and equipment, including kitchen counters and appliances, flooring, paint, landscaping and planter boxes. Some residents helped with the work, and some grilled hamburgers and hot dogs to fuel it. Employees from Key Property Services, which manages the building on behalf of the Vancouver Housing Authority, got inspired, too, and volunteered to paint the three upper halls of the building. Corwin Beverage donated water and soft drinks, and Waste Connections donated two 20-yard drop boxes for recyclables and trash.
