Southwest Washington Child Care Consortium has opened a new site at Hathaway Elementary in Washougal.

The site will offer child care before and after school for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade.

Consortium officials say their programs are effective ways to help children gain social competency skills they need for lifelong learning.

“Our philosophy is to enrich the lives of children through play,” said Director Kristi Baker. “We provide developmentally appropriate games and activities at an affordable rate.”

Hours of operation are 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and after school until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Daily rates are $5.40 per hour and $4.70 per hour for each additional sibling attending on the same day. Hathaway’s program is also open during nonschool days with a rate of $30 per day.

Many working families qualify for assistance with child care costs through the Department of Social Health Services, which offers subsidies to eligible working families. For more information, call 1-877-980-9180 to see if you qualify.
