Deputies arrested a man Friday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that injured a 17-year-old boy Thursday night in Hazel Dell.

Shawn Jacobus Ham, 23, of Vancouver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after allegedly hitting the boy, who was walking on the shoulder of Northeast Hazel Dell Avenue in the 10200 block about 10:15 p.m., and driving away, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A passer-by reported the crash after hearing a noise and finding the teen in the middle of the road, Sgt. K.C. Kasberg said.

Kasberg did not have information on where the boy had been walking in relation to the street. The boy, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available.

A short time after the crash, deputies found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, a Honda coupe, in a driveway near the crash scene.

Investigators said they believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
