Fire damages house near Ridgefield

Fire did heavy damage to the second floor of a house on Northeast 179th Street in Ridgefield on Saturday, according to Clark County Fire District 6.

The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m at 1717 N.E. 179th St., east of Interstate 5. Callers reported that fire had started in an upstairs room.

Fire District 6 crews arriving on scene found smoke and flames coming from the upper story of the building and began attacking the fire from the exterior before entering the structure. The fire was reported under control about 7 p.m.

Residents of the house were displaced by the fire.

Battalion Chief Brian Johnson said units from Vancouver Fire Department, Clark County Fire & Rescue also responded. The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating.

County property records list the owner as Charles F. Simmons of Olympia.
