NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Xavier Roberson’s 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown ignited a 37-22 comeback for Southeastern Louisiana over Northwestern State Saturday night.

Roberson’s return midway through the third quarter left the Lions trailing by two points. On Northwestern State’s next possession, QB Zack Adkins fumbled and recovered in the endzone for a safety, tying the score at 16.

A 4-yard TD rush by Kody Sutton gave SE Louisiana its first lead of the game, to which the Demons quickly responded with a touchdown of their own. Chris Moore missed the extra point, leaving the score 23-22.

QB Bryan Bennett rushed for a touchdown early in the fourth to stretch the lead to eight for the Lions (5-2, 2-0 Southland). Bennett was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after last week’s game against Stephen F. Austin.

Adkins threw a game-high 258 yards and two touchdowns for Northwestern State (3-4, 0-2).
