Dodgers decline option on bench coach Trey Hillman

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers bench coach Trey Hillman’s contract option for 2014 wasn’t picked up, while most of the rest of manager Don Mattingly’s staff is expected to return.

The team confirmed Tuesday that Hilllman’s tenure had ended after three seasons.

The options on pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, first base coach Davey Lopes and third base coach Tim Wallach were picked up. The team says it hopes to retain bullpen coach Chuck Crim and assistant hitting coach John Valentin.

Mark McGwire, who just completed his first season as hitting coach, was already under contract.

Mattingly is under contract, although his status has yet to be confirmed. He said Monday that his option for 2014 had vested, but he wasn’t sure if he would be back for a fourth season.

Sue Falsone, the team’s head athletic trainer and physical therapist, has left after two seasons. She became the first female to work as a head athletic trainer in major pro sports. Falsone first joined the Dodgers in 2007 as the first female physical therapist in the majors, and she worked in that role through the 2010 season.
