The Portland Winterhawks ran their winning streak to five games with a 3-2 road victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday.

Portland (8-3-0-1) opened the scoring 6:26 into the game on a goal by Keegan Iverson, followed by a power play marker from Brendan Leipsic at the 11:37 mark. Chase De Leo added one at the 16:14 mark as the Hawks took a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The lone goal of the second period came when Lethbridge’s Brady Ramsay scored a power goal late in the frame to cut Portland’s lead to 3-1 going into the third.

The Hurricanes (2-11-0-1) got within one when Axel Blomqvist scored at the 14:35 mark of the third cut the Hawks’ lead to 3-2, but that was as close as they’d get as Portland slammed the door to come away with the win.

Brendan Burke earned the win with 26 saves on 28 shots, while Hurricanes netminder Corbin Boes gave up three goals on 41 Portland shots.

The Hawks were 1-6 on the power play and 7-8 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks continue their road trip tomorrow night when they travel to Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers.
