Taryn Ries of Ridgefield soccer was voted The Columbian's high school fall sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Oct. 19.
Ries collected 32 percent of the 1,352 votes cast by fans to beat out Megan LaFond of Union volleyball, who had 28 percent.
Ries had two goals and an assist as the Spudders remained in first place in the 2A GSHL with a 4-0 win over R.A. Long.
The other nominees were Dominik Gorecki of Columbia River tennis, Juliann Reed of Camas swimming and Ryan Sturdivan of Woodland golf.
Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.
Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
