Letter: President didn't budge to negotiate

Sequestration, debt limit, shutdown of the federal government. Now, before pro-Democrat or pro-Republican blame is averred, think of the innate genius and foresight that the framers of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution had. Executive, legislative, judicial branches are the system of checks and balances working in collaboration so as to epitomize government of the people, by the people and for the people. We are a republic; republic means that we elect representatives to do our bidding in the federal government.

The fact is that the president and his Cabinet tinkered and revised the Affordable Care Act for nearly five years, and the president wouldn't consider negotiation with the other party; House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had stated that it would be all over in minutes, all they had to do was say "yes."

As so many Americans, I've paid into and earned Social Security benefits; I earned my military pension, years of industrial work also earned pension benefit. With the political histrionics and the most divisive, cloistered and dysfunctional presidency in modern history, my personal earnings and retirement are in jeopardy, as is so many of my fellow Americans.
