BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — John Russ threw for 180 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 132 yards and another score as Mercer held on for a 38-31 win over Campbell on Saturday.

Russ tossed a 72-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Marshall on the first play from scrimmage and added a 15-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter. JeTarii Donald then ran for two scores — a 43-yarder and a 7-yarder — to give Mercer (7-1, 3-1 Pioneer) a 31-10 halftime lead. Russ tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Robert Brown in the third to extend the lead to 38-10.

Brian Hudson then ran for a score and threw two touchdown passes to bring Campbell (1-7, 0-5) back, but it wasn’t enough. Hudson finished 33 of 46 for 308 yards and three touchdown passes while rushing for 76 yards.

Mercer has now scored at least 35 points six times this season.
