SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Andy Summerlin shook off an early game interception that was returned for a score, and passed for 259 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Samford edged Wofford 34-27 in a meeting of Southern Conference unbeatens on Saturday.

Summerlin was intercepted three times, first by Alvin Scioneaux, who returned it 33 yards for an early 7-0 Wofford lead. But Jeremiaha Gates and Summerlin each threw TD passes to Chris Cephus as Samford (6-2, 4-0 Southern) surged ahead 14-7 by the end of the opening period.

Wofford (5-3, 4-1) fell behind by as many as 11, but rallied into a 24-24 tie when Ty Gregory scooped up teammate Donovan Johnson’s fumble at the 2 and punched it in.

Samford scored twice more — a 38-yard field goal by Warren Handrahan and Summerlin’s second TD pass, a 26-yarder to Jauan Davis.

A 30-yard field goal by Kasey Redfern pulled Wofford within 34-27.
